College education

Having a college education is very important for today’s competitive market for many different reasons. When an individual is looking for a job, it will be a lot easier to find a good one with a good wage if this person has a college degree. Being an educated person is valuable in the society’s view, most of the people with higher education have a superior standard of living. Within a work environment, an individual with college education is more likely to be more successful than someone else without one.

There are a lot of jobs available in the market today in many different industries. The problem is not the quantity of jobs available; it is the quality of jobs available. The majority of the openings are for low wages like flipping burger at a Mac Donald’s, working as a cashier in a Walgreen’s, or even cleaning the floor at a Publix. Not a lot of jobs are well paid in the big corporations, and for these ones there are a lot of competition and qualified workers going after these jobs. Most, if not all of the big shots in the corporations have completed at least college. The executives, who have high wages, the CEOs, they all have been through college. A college education is a huge differential for people looking for a good job.

According to the Bureal of Labor Statistics, most of the low income people do not have a college education. On the other hand, most of the workers with high paid positions have a college degree. This is a chain that is inevitable: the more education an individual has, the better he / she will do in a job interview. Even within a corporate environment, the people who have more education will have more chance to go up in the corporation ladder. The ones who do not have a college degree are more likely to stay in the same low paid position for good or until they decide to get an education to be able to achieve better positions.

There is a big issue as far as discrimination is concerned from the society nowadays against the people without a proper education. High class people will not mix with low class and vice-versa. Normally the families with financial difficulties will not give education to their sons and / or daughters, on the other hand, for those families that the money is not an issue they care a lot about the education given to their sons and daughters.

Finally, today’s corporate environment is very competitive and going up on the corporate ladder is not easy. For those who have graduated in college, being promoted is more likely than those who do not have a degree. I used to work for Central Florida Investments in Orlando, Florida and I personally saw a good example of the difference that a college education makes. The position for marketing director opened up and there were a few people after that position. One of them was a work mate of mine, he was a manager there, and there were a couple of other people who applied from outside the company. Everyone thought that my friend would get the promotion and fill the position, but he was still going to college and did not have a degree yet. Regardless of his experience in the company, the other person, who was not currently working for the company, had a college education was the one that got the position. He was very upset. Today, he has a master’s degree and he is the new marketing director at Central Florida Investments.

In summary, having a degree makes a huge difference in many situations. It helps people looking for jobs, it makes a better image for society and it definitely makes a lot easier in today’s work environment as far as being hired for a good position and also in regards to being promoted once inside a corporation. College education completes a person.
